WHAT IS FLORIDIANS FOR SOLAR CHOICE? Floridians for Solar Choice, Inc. is a registered Florida political committee that is working for good solar policy in Florida, including legislative work and ballot initiatives. It’s a grassroots effort driven by a diverse coalition including Floridians from across the political spectrum and the business community.
When past legislative efforts to overcome barriers to solar were thwarted by large monopoly power companies like Florida Power and Light (FPL) and Duke Energy, the grassroots came together to try and give Floridians a VOICE and a CHOICE on energy in the Sunshine State by attempting to place a constitutional amendment on the Florida ballot that would give Florida’s families and businesses the right to choose solar power.
Big power companies did not want to lose their exclusive hold on Florida’s electric customers or their wallets and so they launched a competing ballot campaign in the hopes of confusing voters. This video details the story of monopoly utilities’ successful campaign to manipulate and mislead Floridians about solar:
- Help educate people about the importance of voting NO ON Amendment 1 – a deceptive amendment, backed by the monopoly utilities, which seeks to stifle solar power and keep Floridians captive power consumers.
- Collect Solar Choice petitions! We are exploring the opportunities to place the Solar Choice amendment on the 2018 ballot and continue to gather signatures. Remember – every petition signed represents another Floridian who wants access to affordable solar power. This is an incredibly powerful message to legislators as we continue the fight to advance good solar policy in our state. Download, sign and mail in the petition. Signed petitions can be mailed to: Floridians for Solar Choice, 120 E. Oakland Park Blvd. Suite 105, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33334
