Florida Alliance for Retired Americans Endorses Floridians for Solar Choice Ballot Initiative

Solar Helps Retired Floridians Reduce Energy Bills

Wellington, Fla. (October 1, 2015) The Florida Alliance for Retired Americans (FLARA), a non-profit organization with over 200,000 members, has endorsed the Floridians for Solar Choice ballot initiative. Members of FLARA are enthusiastic to support an initiative that truly aligns with their objective to support the well-being of senior residents of Florida.

“The Florida Alliance for Retired Americans wholeheartedly endorses the Solar Choice Amendment. We believe Floridians for Solar Choice offers needed consumer protections – especially for vulnerable seniors who often have to choose between medicine and a power bill – by helping to lock in energy prices with solar power. As we face a wave of baby boomers retiring, solar can help lower electricity bills while protecting precious natural resources for future generations,” said Bill Sauers, President of The Florida Alliance for Retired Americans.

FLARA actively pursues and promotes legislation and public policies that are in the best interest of current and future retired Floridians. Through the active civic involvement of its more than 200,000 members, FLARA advocates programs and activities at all levels of government to prepare for the growing population of older Floridians who desire to remain self-sufficient. FLARA members recognize the importance of the Floridians for Solar Choice initiative and the benefits that Solar Choice would offer to the retired community throughout the state.

The Florida Alliance for Retired Americans (FLARA) joins the non-partisan coalition of more than 60 businesses, industry associations, conservative groups, faith communities, clean energy advocates, and environmental organizations that have officially endorsed the Solar Choice campaign.

The ballot proposal is designed to expand solar choice by removing barriers that limit solar ownership models. Florida is one of only four states where current law expressly denies citizens and businesses the freedom to buy solar power electricity directly from someone other than a monopoly electric utility or government-owned electric utility.
