Honoring the Will of Florida Voters, Pro Solar Amendment 4 is One Step Closer to Implementation

SB 90 Clears Senate Floor

Tallahassee, Fla. (May 1, 2017)  – Thanks to persistent efforts by volunteers and advocates and the dedication of Senator Jeff Brandes and Representative Ray Rodrigues, a clean implementation bill for pro-solar Amendment 4 cleared another hurdle late Friday when SB 90 gained approval on the Senate floor.

“A clean implementation honors the will of the voters who resoundingly supported Amendment 4 to reduce barriers to solar,” said Susan Glickman, Florida Director of Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. “We applaud the Senate action and Senator Brandes’ leadership to get solar policy right in Florida.”

Senate passage is one of the final steps of a truly grassroots process that has included hundreds of organizations, thousands of volunteers and ultimately garnered the support of 73% of voters on the August primary ballot.

Final steps must also include approval on the House floor. Representative Ray Rodrigues is leading that effort with House Bill 1351.  The two bill sponsors are working out some differences in the bills and it is expected that it will be voted out of The House early this week, before the end of the 2017 Florida Legislative session.

“These last steps in the process are crucial to ensuring that the will of the voters is honored, consumers are protected, and that punitive regulations for the Florida small and mid size business community are not added to this legislation,” said Tory Perfetti, Chair of Floridians for Solar Choice. “Our coalition continues to work closely with both Senator Brandes and Representative Rodgrigues to ensure that the final bill represents good energy policy for this great state and its citizens.”
