Tampa, FL – Floridians for Solar Choice (FSC) Chairman Tory Perfetti reported recent contributions totaling $1,110,000 in December 2021 and January 2022. The contributions support a bid by Floridians for Solar Choice to change the Florida Constitution in order to protect the right of Floridians to utilize the sun to generate, collect, and sell solar power. Floridians for Solar Choice is organizing a massive statewide effort to collect the required petitions to get the initiative on the ballot, and the language has already passed the Florida Supreme Court’s review.
FSC Chairman Tory Perfetti said, "The Floridians for Solar Choice Coalition is moving forward on the path of bringing our amendment to the citizens of the great state of Florida. We believe that in this time period of difficulties it is more important than ever to have a range of non-mandated options to choose from when it comes to providing energy to your home or business.”
Dr. Stephen A. Smith, FSC Board member and Executive Director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, added, “We strongly believe that no utility or any single group or organization should have monopoly control over the power of the sun – no one owns the sun in the Sunshine state. We're committed to moving this ballot forward so that consumers in Florida have more options to harness solar power, not less.”
In order to get the measure on the ballot, Floridians for Solar Choice will need to collect 891,589 signatures before February 2, 2024, for the measure to make the 2024 ballot.
